Alexey Belogoryev, Deputy Principal Director on Energy Studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to REGNUM on the reasons for interruptions in the supply of electricity from Belarus to Ukraine.

Interruptions in the supply of electricity from Belarus to Ukraine are associated with the desire of the Ukrainian side to abandon synchronization with the systems of Belarus and Russia and connect to the European system. Alexey Belogoryev, Deputy Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, told a REGNUM correspondent about this.

“In the spring, Ukraine banned the import of electricity from Belarus by itself. Ukraine motivated this by the fact that it wants to move away from the synchronous operation of the energy system with Russia and Belarus in order to switch to synchronization with the European ENTSO-E system,” the expert said.

“So the questions here should be presented rather to the Ukrainian side, and not to the Belarusian side,” the political scientist summed up.
