Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Business FM radio station on the consequences of a possible increase in US sanctions against Iranian oil exports.

"The sanctions that have been imposed on Iranian exports have led to a sharp reduction in exports and production. It was not possible to reset exports, I think it is impossible in principle, but it is quite possible for Trump to reduce it by two or three times, and there are such tools. But they won't come up with anything new, I think it will be a return to the situation of 2019-2020, because under Biden, the sanctions formally remained the same as before, but they were greatly mitigated by the fact that the United States was looking at the increase in exports, which actually happened, because the United States needed It was necessary to find some kind of replacement for Russian oil, and this led to the fact that sanctions against Iran were actually eased. Trump is now saying that he will return to the sanctions policy that existed before 2022, he will not come up with anything new, Iranian oil now mainly goes to China, largely through Malaysia, through its mediation, goes mainly to independent refineries, that is, it is not bought by large Chinese companies., not state-owned companies, but mostly private refineries. In addition, Iran actively cooperates with Venezuela, helping in the export of Venezuela. Therefore, Trump has the opportunity to limit Iranian exports, the most that can be done is to reduce it, and it is possible to withdraw one million and a half barrels from the market more or less quickly, within a few months."
