Maxim Shevyrenkov, Head of the Center for Analysis of Commodity Markets at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to InfoTEK on the consequences of the diesel exports ban for Russian refineries.
It was reported that the authorities are considering a ban on the export of diesel fuel and aviation kerosene to the current gasoline embargo. The restrictions may come into force in the near future and will be in effect for one to two months. The decision is being worked out against the background of ongoing drone attacks on Russian refineries.
Shevyrenkov called this scenario quite realistic.
The expert clarified that mainly marine exports of diesel fuel, which are not secured by intergovernmental agreements, will fall under the restrictions. In April, according to him, it was just at the level of about 3 million tons, including light gas oil."If the ban comes into force, it will give the Russian market about 2-3 million tons of diesel per month. The effect on jet fuel will be relatively small," he explained.
