Alexey Belogoryev, Deputy Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Rossiyskaya Gazeta on the import substitution in the Russian gas industry.
Own gas liquefaction technologies are urgently needed. For the gas industry, the most difficult thing is the large-scale production of LNG, with a capacity of more than one million tons per year, Alexey Belogoryev told RG.
Such production includes, in particular, the Arctic LNG-2 and Baltic LNG plants under construction. Without the participation of the main technology partners, and these are all Western companies, the timing of the implementation of these projects may shift by two to three years, Alexey Belogoryev believes.
In the electric power industry of Russia, on average, about 70 percent of equipment of domestic production is operated. However, if we take high-capacity turbines, then the situation is reversed - more than 70 percent of such turbines at Russian power plants are foreign, the rest is joint production.
There is hope for a solution to this problem, Alexey Belogoryev is sure. “First of all, these are the projects of the Power Machines company, which promised to present a pilot sample of a 170-megawatt turbine by the end of 2022. And somewhere by 2025, to start producing eight turbines a year, the expert noted. They can also be used for the electric power industry, and for the same Arctic LNG-2 project.
