Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Business FM on the prospects for introducing a “price ceiling” for Russian gas in the EU.
Now, according to the Financial Times, the division of Europe into two zones is being discussed. In the red zone, prices may be limited, in the green they will remain high. But there is no main thing: what specific prices can we talk about, Alexey Gromov notes:
“What are we starting from in terms of the gas price ceiling and from what levels? What level will Europe choose? Will it choose the current level, choose the level of the beginning of the year, choose the average level for five years of gas prices that were arranged in Europe until 2022? These are all very different completely levels, and until some figures are announced in official documents or in statements by the EU representatives, the range of prices can be very wide.”
