Alexey Gromov, Chief Energy Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the RIA Novosti news agency regarding Europe's opportunities to replace Russian natural gas.
The European Union will not be able to abandon Russian gas in the next two years due to its extremely high dependence on it, but in the long term, Europeans are ready to move away from Russian energy exports, Alexey Gromov told RIA Novosti.
“If we talk about short-term prospects, that is, is it possible to do this in the next year or two, then this seems impossible due to the extremely high dependence of the EU, primarily on natural gas, with accounting weather conditions - by 30-40%. It is extremely unlikely, even simply unbelievable and impossible, to replace the volumes in such terms with alternative sources of supply or even by launching all possible alternative energy sources," he said in an interview with the agency.
