Alexey Belogoryev commented to the Kommersant FM radio station on the reasons for the refusal of the Gazprom shareholders’ meeting to pay dividends for 2021.
Reducing gas exports to Europe may be a long-term plan to put pressure on the West, experts do not rule out. Then the company's reluctance to pay dividends is understandable - every month its profit will be less and less. This is partly confirmed by the actions of Gazprom itself, says Alexey Belogoryev:
“There is movement on both sides. 8 countries out of 23 that consumed Russian gas have already abandoned it, and we see serious attempts to reduce imports from many other countries, including Germany and Italy, our key consumers.
On the other hand, Gazprom is in no hurry to increase supplies, and one gets the impression that it is trying to reduce them. This can be seen at least by how little it is currently pumping through Ukraine.”
