Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Federal Press Internet portal on the benefits for Russia from the transition of Western countries to gas payments in rubles.
Since April, unfriendly countries have to pay for gas supplies only in rubles.
“The scheme does not violate the sanctions already imposed against Russia and its financial system, and on the other hand, it allows to fulfill the decision of the president to transfer such payments into rubles. Of course, there will be countries to which even such extremely mild conditions may seem unacceptable. But given the reaction that has already appeared on the part of our partners, such countries will be in the minority. Because it is obvious that to refuse Russian gas today is to shoot yourself in the foot,” Alexey Gromov comments.
