Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Neft and Capital Internet portal on the situation with the Ukrainian UGS occupancy.
As Alexey Gromov said, there is indeed a physical reverse of gas from Europe, and specifically from Slovakia, for Ukraine. Kiev could outbid the blue fuel intended for European consumers. But whether the Eastern European countries will want this is a big question.
On the other hand, due to successive attacks on energy industry facilities, including energy-intensive industrial facilities serving the military needs of the Ukrainian army, gas consumption in Ukraine is decreasing. And the population of the country is actively "accustomed" to regular blackouts of light and heat."Selling your gas from UGS before the peak of the autumn-winter heating season, and even when the Ukrainian transit of Russian gas in 2025, as they have repeatedly said in the EU and Kiev, can be stopped? They'd better keep it with them for now. Kiev can hardly count on additional volumes due to gas imports. Those countries that provided it before will not do it now," the expert explained.
"Ukraine can buy less gas, but given the course of hostilities and the disabling of energy-intensive enterprises, all this can balance demand and consumption of gas in a peculiar way," Alexey Gromov summed up.
