Japan proposed to create a strategic reserve of liquefied natural gas

Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Infotech on Japan's proposal to create the strategic gas reserves to stabilize international gas markets in the future.

"From the point of view of the future development, LNG storage at regasification terminals is, indeed, a sensible proposal. But again, all this costs money, who will be willing to pay for it? Further price dynamics is especially important. If gas prices remain below $500 per thousand cubic meters in Europe and Asia, then I don't think anyone will seriously deal with this," Belogoryev said.

In his opinion, investors can go to the implementation of such economically risky projects only if there are high gas prices in the long term, which is unlikely.
