Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to RIA Novosti and the Prime news agency on the role of agreements to expand Russian gas supplies to China for Russian-Chinese energy relations and the development of the Russian gas industry.
Belogoryev called the agreement on the Power of Siberia 2 a breakthrough.
According to the expert, in the case of Power of Siberia, this process dragged on for six years, but this was due to resource constraints, not infrastructure constraints."The start of commercial deliveries by Power of Siberia 2 is approximately in 2032. Reaching the design capacity in the absence of problems with the resource base may well be 2035," he said.
"What is even more important is the agreements on the expansion of the Power of Siberia and the Far Eastern route, because these are more tangible projects. If Power of Siberia 2 is a geopolitical project, then the expansion of these two gas pipelines "speaks to an economic interest," he explained.
"These are undoubtedly positive signals. Moreover, these extensions have much clearer deadlines. This is most likely 2030-2031, 2032 at the latest. As for the "Far Eastern" route, if it is provided with a resource base, it could be as early as 2029," the expert added.
