Alexey Belogoryev, Deputy Principal Director on Energy Studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Regnum on the reasons for the energy crisis in Moldova.
The reason for the energy crisis in Moldova is the absence of a contract for the autumn-winter period for gas supplies.
To recall, that a state of emergency was declared in Moldova due to a shortage of gas. The Russian corporation Gazprom has offered to conclude a short-term contract for gas supplies to Moldova, subject to the repayment of the debt for the already supplied in September and October this year.“The reason for the energy crisis in Moldova and the ensuing state of emergency is that the contract has not been signed. Why? There are several reasons,” the expert said.
“The first reason is price differences. This reason is quite obvious. In all of the cases, regardless of the formulas, the gas price for Moldova cannot be lower than $ 900 per thousand cubic meters. It may be more, depending on a number of conditions. Moldova wants to get gas three times cheaper, somewhere around $ 300 per thousand, or even $ 270-280 - this is the price that Gazprom offered Romania in September," Belogoryev explained.
