Alexander Titov, Senior expert at the Energy Department of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to “Mashnews. Industry News” on the prospects of petroleum products pipeline supplies to the Far East.
The key oil product pipelines operating in Russia are tied to exports, primarily of diesel, Alexander Titov recalled. The product pipeline project from Omsk to the Far East has little chance of being implemented simply because it is impossible to ensure its loading in the volume necessary for profitability. According to the expert, it is easier for suppliers to transport goods within the country by rail or motor transport, for which the entire infrastructure is already in place, than to pull a new pipe in conditions of low pumping volumes.
According to Alexander Titov, it is important that factories have a choice between transporting petroleum products by rail, road, water or pipeline. And then the market makes the decision.
