Staff cuts are rocking Gazprom

Belogoryev Alexey M. Research and Development Director, Director of the Center for Energy strategic analysis and forecasting

Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Kommersant FM on the reasons for the possible optimization of Gazprom's central office.

Amid the loss of the European market, such optimization is justified, Alexey Belogoryev believes:

"Gazprom is one of the largest employers in Russia. The company employs about 0.5 million people. The cuts that have leaked to the media are related to the central office, the optimization of which is quite a natural phenomenon in the context of declining revenue and profits. Gazprom has ceased to be the super-profitable company it was before 2022, the general financial conditions of its activities have changed, plus the front of work itself is changing, primarily due to the loss of the European sales market.

Therefore, in my opinion, this is quite a natural optimization, as if in the context of changing financial conditions."
