Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to TASS on the reasons and consequences of the OPEC+'s decision to accelerate the increase in oil production in June 2025.
Belogoryev noted that, according to data for the second quarter, the global market remains slightly in short supply. The expert added that a noticeable oversupply is expected closer to the fourth quarter of 2025.
If OPEC+ accelerates the pace of production growth, the price of Brent may go into the range of $ 40-50 per barrel, Belogoryev admitted. At the same time, according to the expert, such an acceleration will mean OPEC+'s desire for a full-fledged price war and an attempt to squeeze out non-OPEC+ suppliers with high production costs from the market."Therefore, the assumptions that as a result of the OPEC+ decisions, the price of Brent will collapse right now to $ 50 per barrel do not look reasonable. A steady decline to this level is indeed possible, but towards the end of the year," he said.
