Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Business FM radio station regarding the decision of the President of the Russian Federation to transfer payments for the export of Russian natural gas to unfriendly countries into rubles.
“I assume that when such a decision was made, the calculation was made that, nevertheless, most of the European countries, with certain reservations, would accept Russian conditions. But I also do not exclude the possibility that some European countries, for example, such as Poland, possibly Bulgaria, whose contracts for the supply of Russian gas are already ending at the end of 2022, use this decision as a formal reason for a break, albeit premature, these long term contracts”.
