Russia and the United States will continue to struggle in the gas market in 2021

Salikhov Marcel R. President, Principal Director on Economic Studies, Head of the Economic Department

Marcel Salikhov commented to the Prime News Agency on the situation in the global gas market.

The pandemic also affected LNG suppliers, primarily American ones. Low gas prices often did not cover even the operating costs of supply and made American liquefied gas uncompetitive.

But for Russian LNG, the outgoing year has been much better, Marcel Salikhov, a member of the Expert Council of the Fuels and Energy Technology Development Institute (IRTTEK), President of the Institute for Energy and Finance says in a study prepared by IRTTEK for RIA Novosti. According to him, the flexibility of the contractual terms and prices allowed the Russian LNG giant Novatek to keep the volume of shipments practically at the level of the last year.
