Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to TASS on whether the belated conservation of the blown–up Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 gas pipelines makes sense.
Denmark has granted the operator of Nord Stream 2, Nord Stream 2 AG, permission to preserve the damaged gas pipeline not to protect it from corrosion, but to reduce the risk of methane emissions. The work could have been carried out even earlier, but the Danish and Swedish authorities "drowned" the coordination in bureaucratic red tape, Alexei Belogoryev said.
According to Belogoryev, the technical possibility of installing plugs on the damaged pipe was back in the spring of 2023. The fact that they have not yet been established should be blamed on the Danish and Swedish authorities.
