Sergey Kondratiev, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the internet portal Nakanune on electricity prices on the wholesale market in Siberia.

According to Sergey Kondratiev, traditionally, the rise in prices for DAM in the second price zone is explained by the low water content of rivers and an increase in output at old coal-fired thermal power plants.

"This situation has developed and even now - in July 2022, the share of hydroelectric power plants in the generation of electricity in Siberia amounted to 61.1%, a year ago - 78.7%. The decline in production at hydroelectric power plants was covered by an increase in generation at coal-fired power plants, which also collided , in 2022 with a sharp increase in prices in the domestic market due to pegging to a notional net back and an increase in world coal prices, which could lead to an increase in prices in the wholesale market. The most difficult situation is developing in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia, where output has fallen at the Krasnoyarsk and Sayano-Shushenskaya HPPs, while the situation at the Angarsk cascade remains stable. As a result, DAM prices in Krasnoyarsk rose by a third, while in Irkutsk - by a modest 12%," analyst Sergey Kondratiev explained.
