Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Sputnik radio station about the record volumes of current Russian gas supplies to China.
In an interview with Sputnik radio, Aleksey Gromov explained that the growth in fuel supplies to China is due to the fact that the Power of Siberia gas pipeline is gradually reaching its design capacity.
Payments from Chinese partners are also growing, the expert noted."The situation here is explained by the fact that Russia, in accordance with the schedule and even a little ahead of schedule, is increasing gas supplies under the previously concluded agreement for the supply of fuel through the Power of Siberia gas pipeline. Let me remind you that reaching the full design capacity in terms of volumes of this gas pipeline is planned only at the beginning 2024. Now the growth in pipeline gas supplies to China is due precisely to the fact that Power of Siberia is gradually reaching its design capacity," he said.
"The total volume of payments that Chinese partners must pay for gas supplied by Russia is growing, taking into account not only high oil prices on the world market, but also rising prices for coal and gas. As a result, we have record volumes of both gas supplies and payments for it," Alexey Gromov said.
