Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Novye Izvestia newspaper on the possible consequences of another drone attack on Russian refineries in Tatarstan.
— What damage did the previous attacks do?
— Previous attacks on Russian refineries turned off processing equipment by 900 thousand barrels per day. This is a significant value for Russian oil refining.Obviously, if refining volumes are reduced further, and this lasts for a long time, this will have serious consequences for both the domestic market and exports.
— With regular attacks, the question arises: how secure are the factories?— The system for protecting oil refineries from drone attacks is not effective enough. Let's imagine now that we have solved the supply problem. Conditionally, another drone arrived at the refinery a week later. We have a new problem.
The authorities should minimize not only the current operational risks, but also understand that the source of the problems remains. If we do not stop the source of the problems and ensure the normal protection of Russian refineries from such attacks, then these problems will only increase. This is the most important conclusion.
