Sergey Kondratiev, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of the Institute of Energy and Finance, commented to the Latvian portal Delfi on preferential supplies of energy resources from Russia to Belarus.
Sergei Kondratiev notes that Belarus insists on providing "equal" conditions for its enterprises, wants to receive Russian energy resources at domestic prices, without incurring the costs of reproducing the resource base, ensuring the operation of infrastructure and cities in the north, and so on.
“This is a clear demand to increase in subsidies without any obligations from the Belarusian side. The provision of new subsidies without carrying out structural reforms in Belarus and normalizing the socio-political situation will only lead to the redistribution of this “rent” in favor of businessmen and security officials close to the Belarusian authorities, and will not drastically improve the situation in the economy as a whole," Kondratiev says.
