Vnesheconombank agreed to provide the Belarusian Ministry of Finance with a loan of half a billion dollars — Minsk needs the money to finance advance payments for the Belarusian NPP construction.
Nuclear energy will allow Minsk to save on fuel purchases, said Sergei Kondratyev, a senior expert of the Institute for Energy and Finance, in his comment to Voice of Russia:
«The meaning of our cooperation in constructing the nuclear power plant is, of course, that the reliability of energy supply to Belarusian consumers is increased. Because the share of gas in electricity generation is about 98–99%, and in terms of sufficiently high gas prices, this greatly affects the competitiveness of Belarusian enterprises «.
An agreement on Moscow’s granting a loan to Minsk of up to $ 10 billion for constructing the nuclear power plant was signed a year ago. The first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant is planned to be commissioned in 2017.
