Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Business FM on the consequences of the possible nationalization of Moldovagaz for Moldova's gas supply:
"The main question now is whether Russian gas supplies to Moldova will continue as such, given Ukraine's refusal to be a transit country. Because even if we try to redirect supplies through Turkey and further along the trans-Balkan gas pipeline, it will still cross the territory of Ukraine in the Odessa region in two places. In any case, it is impossible to deliver Russian gas to Moldova without Ukraine's good political will. I don't think nationalization will give Moldova anything in terms of reliable gas supply. Without Russian gas, Moldova can rely either on supplies from Romania, but they are limited by the capacity and availability of gas, or on some European gas supplies through Ukraine. That is, somewhere in Europe there must be traders who have this gas. In the current circumstances, this looks unrealistic. Maybe sometime in 2026, or rather in 2027, something like this can be organized."
