Gromov Alexey I. Principal Director on Energy Studies, Head of the Energy Department

Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the business newspaper "Vzglyad" on the Russia's interest in creating the Turkish gas hub.

"Istanbul has an interesting position, it can become, in fact, a European Henry Hub. This is the physical point of intersection of many gas routes. Pipes from Russia, the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline come here, there are LNG receiving terminals nearby that can receive gas from anywhere in the world. And there is an operating Turkish gas exchange, where it is possible to transfer trade in physical volumes of Azerbaijani gas, in the future even Turkish gas, which is going to start producing at the end of the year, Middle Eastern LNG, Russian. With the correct implementation of the project, Turkey can receive many benefits," Alexey Gromov says.

However, cooperation with Russia in this project is not key for Turkey, he believes.
