Salikhov Marcel R. President, Principal Director on Economic Studies, Head of the Economic Department

Marcel Salikhov, President of the Institute gave a comment to the Izvestia newspaper about the situation on the PRC gas market.

There is indeed a risk that China will reduce gas imports, said Marcel Salikhov, President of the Institute for Energy and Finance. But at the same time, the possibility of such an obvious increase in production within the Middle Kingdom remains in doubt, he said. Forecasts of a rapid increase in domestic production must be supported by actual results, the expert said. In recent years, domestic demand in China has increased faster than domestic production, the analyst said.

- More than five years ago, China has set the task of increasing domestic production using shale gas and coal bed methane. However, as practical experience has shown, a lot of technical difficulties arose. The cost of production is also declining rather slowly, the official forecasts and forecasts of the companies do not come true on a regular basis, Marsel Salikhov explained.
