Alexey Belogoryev, Deputy Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Gazeta.ru on the possibility of Japan withdrawing from the Sakhalin-2 project.

“For Japan, Sakhalin-2 is a very convenient project. Delivery of LNG for Tokyo is carried out from a neighboring island. Plus, control over the resource base of the project is very important for Japan. The Asian country does not have its own large production fields,” Belogoryev explained.
