An embargo is the best remedy: The US, following Russia, wants to ban diesel exports

American factories are largely oriented towards producing gasoline, while Russian ones are focused on diesel, Maxim Shevyrenkov says. Domestic oil refineries were modernized back in the 2010s with diesel cars in mind, which are preferred in Europe. But in 2023, the EU banned the import of Russian petroleum products, which led to an overproduction of this fuel, he explains.
