Alexey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Neft and Capital online portal on the prospects for exporting Russian petroleum products in terms of new US sanctions threats against their buyers.
As Alexey Gromov noted, the global oil products market is more diversified than the crude oil market. If we talk about the most promising areas for the Russian Federation in this regard, then its exports have already gained a foothold in such markets.
If we talk about Asia, then, according to Alexey Gromov, Russia is interested in the Middle East. The Asia-Pacific countries are unattractive for petroleum products from Russia (except for resale), since they are already largely saturated. And where there is no saturation, you have to compete fiercely with Chinese products. In general, China is aggressively crushing the Asia-Pacific markets, considering them its own territory."Among them is Latin America, where diesel fuel turns out to be more profitable and interesting for buyers than supplies from the United States, which until recently occupied a dominant role there. North Africa is interested in reselling Russian petroleum products to Europe, so it has also become an important destination for exports from Russia," the expert says.
Turkey, the principal Director for Energy at the Institute for Energy and Finance, is confident that it will continue its policy of making money from any resale, including Russian petroleum products. There is no reason to assume that Ankara will change this course in the future.
The maximum diversification of the Russian petroleum products exports is perhaps one of the best achievements of the entire Russian oil and gas sector in recent years."In general, there are no one or two largest sales markets for petroleum products from Russia. And this is very good," Alexey Gromov is sure.
