Sergey Kondratiev, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Internet portal Delovoy Petersburg on Gazprom's decision to use the excess Russian onshore gas transmission capacity of the Nord Stream 2 project to develop gas supply for the Russian northwestern regions.
"In my opinion, all large facilities that are now in the North-West region have already been gasified. Yes, some capacities can be transferred to gas, consumption volumes can be increased due to gasification of the north of Karelia and the Murmansk region, but I would not say that all 55 billion cubic meters could be used," the expert explains.
