Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to RIA Novosti and the Prime news agency on the prospects for Russian gas exports to Europe.
According to Alexey Belogoryev, the ban by government agencies somehow falls into the category of force majeure. It is quite possible that the European Commission will be able to come up with a universal formulation that will allow European companies to terminate existing gas supply contracts with Russia without any legal consequences.
"A political decision is more important here. Apparently, it has not been adopted yet, because there are contradictions between the EU countries. In other words, the countries that do not buy Russian LNG are mainly against it. And those who continue to purchase are very cautious about this and have been sabotaging the adoption of restrictive measures against Russia in every possible way over the past couple of years," the expert noted.
