Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Business FM about the start of lower environmental gasoline classes sales on the St. Petersburg Exchange and about the overall situation on the Russian fuel market at the end of August:
“Of course, their priority is to supply their own gas station networks, and secondly, to comply with the government’s recommendations regarding targeted supplies to specific consumers — farmers, government agencies, and so on. They will be prioritized for supply with Euro‑5 gasoline, so vertically integrated oil companies will try to produce as much as possible of the lower‑grade fuels for the exchange. It seems to me that these fuels won’t account for more than a third of the total volume of exchange trading. There’s also the demand side. Naturally, most consumers aren’t interested in buying such fuel and will try to buy Euro‑5 as much as possible. Accordingly, the demand will be for that.”
