Alexey Belogoryev, Deputy Principal Director on Energy Studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, gave a video interview to the REN-TV channel on the conclusion of a long-term contract by Gazprom for the gas supply to Hungary.
"For many years, there was an alternative to either modernize the Ukrainian gas transportation system or build alternative routes, and, in fact, in the 2000s, Russia, Gazprom considered modernization as the main option. The point of no return was passed in 2009, when the Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis actually happened and supplies to Europe were disrupted. Especially after 2014, in general, the political reality became such that, it seems to me, no one here even had any illusions," Aleksey Belogoryev explained.
