Sergey Kondratiev commented to the Izvestia newspaper on the development of nuclear energy in the DPRK.

According to him, North Korea has achieved some success in terms of rocket science, despite the fact that some problems with the development of nuclear weapons delivery systems still remain. At the same time, the likelihood that the country will go into open conflict with other states and use such technologies is quite small.

The day before, the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Lee Jong Sub, said that the DPRK authorities had increased stockpiles of weapons-grade plutonium and uranium for missile warheads by about 10% since 2018.

“First of all, I would like to remind you that South Korea quite often talks about some events allegedly taking place in North Korea, but in the end they are not confirmed by other sources. So here we cannot be completely sure of the veracity of this information,” Kondratiev said. “Second, the buildup of armaments is still a fairly natural process,” Kondratiev said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

At the same time, the expert noted that in recent years, all states with nuclear weapons have been counting on increasing it.

“By the way, China is doing the same. I think North Korea could well take advantage of the difficult political situation,” the analyst admitted.

Kondratiev also recalled that nuclear weapons are not only missiles, but also delivery vehicles. In recent years, North Korea has been testing them.

The specialist added that today, in general, the whole world supports the trend towards the reduction of nuclear weapons, the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and the likelihood that the DPRK suddenly decides to attack neighboring states is quite low.
