South Stream: EU Needs and Russia’s Issues

06 December 2012

On December 7, a project of the South Stream gas pipeline construction will be launched in the south of Russia in the Krasnodar region. Along with Nord Stream, it will become another guarantor of uninterrupted supplies of Russian energy resources to Europe. In fact, South Stream consists of two large projects, experts say in their comments to the Voice of Russia.

According to Vladimir Revenkov: «The European Union welcomes, in principle, the South Stream construction. However, it continues to insist that Gazprom should provide free access for third parties to this pipeline. But at the same time the question arises: what third parties can we allow to this pipeline? The question remains open.»
