Sergey Kondratiev commented to the TASS news agency about the regulation of the domestic gas market in Ukraine.
But in the event of the departure or bankruptcy of the remaining independent suppliers, problems may arise. And then the Ukrainian authorities will have to act in an emergency mode — as far as the situation will allow, of course. Given the general instability in the country, it is likely that companies and people will be left without gas at all in the middle of winter. There has never been enough of its own production, and there is simply nothing to buy from Europe and the USA. The most important strategic facilities, hospitals, schools will be provided as maximum. But you will only have to dream about warmth in every house.
Another option is to illegally connect to gas transit to Europe. Actually, this is still being practiced, and no one is going to stop the selection. But it is under threat for other reasons. Naftogaz has already declared its unwillingness to extend the transit agreement expiring in 2024. Russia also has serious claims against it, in particular, the illegal selection. In this case, the "very last trickle of hope" will run out.
Upon termination of transit, Naftogaz may also lose at least $40 million per month. Now Naftogaz and Gazprom are arguing what the payment should be, taking into account the refusal of the Ukrainian company to accept gas through GIS Sokhranovka.
According to Kondratiev's estimates, despite the fact that Naftogaz's net losses will be less, this will still worsen the company's financial situation and complicate gas purchases on the European market.
