Sergey Kondratiev, Principal Director on Economic Studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper on gasoline supplies to Russia from Kazakhstan.
As Sergey Kondratiev noted, Kazakhstan is hardly ready to start supplying fuel to Russia, and it is doubtful that Russia sent such a request to Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan's market is balanced by AI-92, but there is a shortage of high-octane gasoline (AI-95, AI-98 and higher), the demand for which is growing rapidly. In 2023, Kazakhstan imported 7.9 thousand tons of AI-95, 1.3 thousand tons of AI-98 from Russia and Belarus.
"And given the rapid growth in demand recently, Kazakhstan will need more fuel this year, so there will be no resources for export. Perhaps Kazakhstan can provide one-time assistance to Russia (small fuel supplies), but I don't think it will really be needed," the expert believes.
