Deputy Head of the Economic Department Sergey Kondratiev gave comments to the radio station Sputnik Litva regarding construction of the Rail Baltica railway.

The senior expert at the Institute for Energy and Finance Sergey Kondratiev expressed the opinion in an interview with Sputnik Lithuania, that independent implementing the project could affect the budget and financial capabilities of Lithuania.

«If Lithuania completes this project earlier than the other Baltic countries, if it nevertheless discusses not only the possibilities of financing, but also actually finance the construction itself, then in fact it turns out that there is a piece of railroad that does not lead anywhere. A passenger traffic in Lithuania itself is extremely small. In fact, the passenger traffic in all three Baltic countries does not require the creation of such a new modern railway infrastructure. Accordingly, in this case, it will turn out to be a monument to the European infrastructure development plans»,- the expert said.

At the same time, as Kondratyev noted, the Rail Baltica project itself will not give impetus to the Lithuanian economy.
