Kovykta gas began to be supplied to China

21 December 2022

Kondratiev Sergey V. Principal Director on Economic Studies, Head of the Economic Department

Sergey Kondratiev, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Kommersant newspaper about the start of gas production at the Kovyktinskoye field.

Sergey Kondratiev notes that after the decline in exports to the EU, the launch of Kovykta is especially important for Gazprom: this year China was taking gas ahead of schedule. According to his estimates, this trend will continue in 2023, and exports by the "Power of Siberia" can reach 22-25 billion cubic meters. At the same time, the analyst notes difficulties with the coordinated commissioning of mining, transport and processing capacities for the "Power of Siberia" due to sanctions.
