Gas calls for amicable solutions

«The dispute between Russia and Lithuania in the Gazprom case can be resolved not in court, but through negotiations," Vladimir Revenkov, Head of the Gas Markets Sector of the Institute for Energy and Finance said in an interview with the Voice of Russia radio station.

Russia has the right to sue Lithuania in the International Arbitration Court in the Gazprom case if it fails to reach an agreement in the course of bilateral consultations, which are scheduled on January 2013, said Maxim Medvedkov, Director of the Trade Negotiations Department of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development. He explained that these issues are related to the EU Third Energy Package.

In mid-December, Russia announced the preparation of a new draft agreement with the European Union on cross-border gas pipelines, which Russia needs to be confident in construction of new gas pipelines in the EU and to eliminate violations. Russia defends its right to regulate gas prices on the domestic market before the European Union.
