Russian coal exports in September fell to the lowest level since April

Alexander Titov, senior expert at the Energy Department of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Kommersant on the Russian coal export in September 2025.

Coal exports from Russia in September decreased by 5% compared to August, amounting to 17.1 million tons, the lowest figure since April. This is evidenced by data from the Price Index Center, which was reviewed by Kommersant. At the same time, shipments increased by 22% year-on-year.

Alexander Titov believes that in the fourth quarter of 2025, export volumes will remain higher than last year, but they will barely reach the level of 2023.

"The ruble has weakened a bit, but it has remained quite strong. Since quotes remain extremely low even after the summer recovery, we should expect a slight increase in prices rather than a further drop," he says.
