In a career spanning more than 25 years Grant has worked in all facets of the energy business from asset and infrastructure developments, project financing and technology, as well as energy policy development, market reforms and privatisation in over 20 countries.

Born and educated in Australia, Grant commenced his career in the energy sector working as an electrical engineer on some of the largest industrial and energy projects in the country, rising to the role of general manager and director at ALSTOM’s Power Transmission & Distribution business which included the regulatory advisory services consulting business, and later at Siemens where he was responsible for the energy technologies and services business lines and led strategy development and M&A activity in the UK.

In these roles he was the senior executive responsible for Risk, Governance, EH&S, and Compliance.

He has worked on energy risk, compliance and regulation in the UK, Ireland, EU and Australia, leading client advisory and transformation programmes centred around risk, regulation, compliance and governance, and now as an independent consultant Grant works with boards and executives of leading energy companies helping them to improve their risk management, resilience and governance capabilities, and develop future-ready strategies for energy transition and enhanced ESG-based reporting and disclosure, and has led large scale energy and utilities transformation programmes delivering ERM, corporate governance and digital strategy, many of which have been received industry achievement awards.

In addition to his executive director and senior executive roles, Grant has also held a number of independent non-executive director (NED) and advisory board positions.

He is a thought leader, author and major contributor to global energy risk issues through his work as a Global Ambassador at the Institute of Risk management (IRM) where he also serves as Deputy Chair of the Energy & Renewables Special Interest Group.

As a media commentator and presenter Grant’s work includes political commentary for national and international news networks, contributing columnist to risk, corporate governance and energy publications, and speaker and panellist on risk, risk culture, ESG, and strategy.

He is a member of the Institute of Directors (London), Institute of Risk Management (IRM), and is the Institute of Strategic Risk Management.
