The Internet publication Meduza (acting as a foreign agent) published an article by Marcel Salikhov, President of the Institute for Energy and Finance “Amid rumors about the war, it seems that Nord Stream 2 may not be launched at all. In this case, who will lose more - Russia or Europe?”
One of the possible consequences of the current international tension is Europe's complete abandonment of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which has already been built but has not yet been put into operation. Meduza asked Marcel Salikhov, Director of the Center for Economic Expertise at the HSE Institute of State and Municipal Administration, to tell who will suffer more in this situation - Russia, which was going to sell more gas to Europe, or European consumers, who have already faced rising prices in recent months. The key outcome is that Nord Stream is no longer as important as it might seem.
