The complaints' reasonability from Naftogaz was assessed

Aleksey Gromov, Principal Director on Energy Studies of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Kommersant newspaper about by what the Ukrainian company's appeal to the EC could turn out for Gazprom.

The European Commission confirmed that it had received a complaint from Naftogaz against Gazprom. The Russian monopoly is required to sell large consignments of gas to the EU and pump it through Ukraine. So far, nothing is known about the reaction of Brussels to this demand. On December 22, Naftogaz accused Gazprom of organizing the energy crisis in Europe. The European Commission itself has previously stated that they are checking for possible manipulations. How does all this threaten Gazprom? And are Naftogaz's claims substantiated?

But now it is difficult to imagine that the matter will come to a serious investigation, Alexey Gromov, Director for Energy at the Institute for Energy and Finance says: “The European Commission can inform Gazprom about this complaint and propose to respond to it from the position of additional Russian gas. But to force to do anything, to start some kind of investigation - there are no legal grounds for this."
