Alexey Belogoryev, Research and Development Director of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to Neft and Capital magazine on the prospects for resuming Russian gas supplies to Germany.
As Alexey Belogoryev said, it all depends on the motivation of European states. Apart from the Russian side, German chemical enterprises, industrial production and energy companies need the operation of this gas pipeline most of all. However, their voices are not heard in Berlin. The decision to block the gas pipeline is solely in the political field.
"Everyone else is either not interested in the work of NS-2, or they would like the pipeline not to work at all. All the conversations and unofficial reports from the United States regarding the restoration of such a highway are verbal nonsense that creates the appearance that Washington is supposedly ready to take into account Moscow's interests in the negotiations.
In reality, the Donald Trump administration is not at all interested in making SP-2 work. It's more likely to get in the way. Although it's enough for Trump to just do nothing. The current German Chancellor, the European Commission and a number of European countries already have a clearly negative attitude towards Nord Stream 2," the expert says.
