Sergei Kondratiev, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented on the problems of decommissioning the Ignalina NPP to the internet portal Baltnews.
To close the nuclear power plant as quickly, safely and possibly cheaper than in other scenarios, you can turn to Rostatom. But, Lithuania is likely to take a different path.
However, according to Sergei Kondratiev, senior expert of the Institute for Energy and Finance Foundation, European companies can still be attracted to closing the nuclear power plant in Lithuania, since dismantling is a simpler process than building reactors from scratch. However, the expert emphasized that such work still requires experience, and in the case of IEAS, it is with Soviet reactors, which means that it would be most logical to involve Rosatom in such a task.
"The French Areva has the opportunity to deal with decommissioning the Lithuanian nuclear plant. You can involve companies from the Czech Republic and Germany. However, in this case, Lithuania will have to break the process into many small stages, which will not only increase the work schedule, but also make the dismantling of the station more expensive. The easiest way would be to entrust this to a giant company so that it hand over the work on a turnkey basis, but I'm not sure that in Europe, and even in the United States, there will be such a large company as Rosatom, moreover, with experience working with Soviet reactors ", - the energy expert shared his opinion.
