Sergey Kondratiev, Principal Director on Economic Studies at the Institute for Energy and Finance, commented to the Kommersant newspaper on the development of gas production in the Arctic region.
According to Kommersant, Gazprom is discussing with Rosatom the possibility of building four floating nuclear power plants with a total capacity of 400 MW to supply energy to the Tambey cluster fields in Yamal.
The project level of production at the fields of the Tambey cluster is estimated at 55 billion cubic meters of gas, Sergey Kondratiev notes. The floating power units will allow the project to be developed autonomously, without the construction of its own gas thermal power plants. The largest gas producing divisions of the company, for example, Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy and Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk, he notes, have a maximum power consumption of about 300 MW with a noticeably higher production volume.
